If you’re handling a probate or trust property anywhere in Los Angeles County — from the San Gabriel Valley to the Southeast/Harbor/South Bay area to the Antelope Valley — the real-estate side of the process looks similar from city to city, but the local details and the court steps don’t. This page covers what’s countywide: how Los Angeles County’s probate court works, and where to find city-specific guidance once it’s available.

Alex Gonzalez provides bilingual probate and trust real-estate education and property coordination for families across Los Angeles County. This page is general education, not legal advice — a probate attorney is the right resource for questions about your specific case.
Los Angeles County probate orientation
Probate matters in Los Angeles County are handled through the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles — Probate Division. Probate matters are heard at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse (111 N. Hill Street, Los Angeles) and, for the Antelope Valley area, at the Michael D. Antonovich Antelope Valley Courthouse (42011 4th Street West, Lancaster) — Antelope Valley probate filings route through the county Probate Division at Stanley Mosk, not a separate branch court.
This distinction matters for many Los Angeles County communities: a case connected to a city with its own local branch courthouse (for example, Long Beach, Norwalk, or East Los Angeles) is generally still verified through the county’s Probate Division / Stanley Mosk, not automatically assumed to be handled at the nearest branch. The correct filing or hearing location for a specific case can depend on the case type, applicable law, and the parties’ ZIP-code information — it is not simply “whichever courthouse is closest.” Confirm the current filing location directly through the Los Angeles Superior Court’s own guidance, or with the clerk or a California probate attorney for case-specific questions. This page does not determine which courthouse applies to any individual estate.
The Probate Division also handles trust proceedings, conservatorships, and guardianships alongside decedents’ estates. Venue generally follows where the deceased person lived at the time of death, not where a particular property is located.
