Probate and Trust Real Estate in San Bernardino County, California

If you’re handling a probate or trust property anywhere in San Bernardino County — from the Inland Empire cities near Ontario and Rancho Cucamonga to the High Desert communities around Victorville — the real-estate side of the process looks similar from city to city, but the local details and the court steps don’t. This page covers what’s countywide: how San Bernardino County’s probate court works, and where to find city-specific guidance once it’s available.

San Bernardino County probate orientation

Probate matters in San Bernardino County are handled through the Superior Court of California, County of San Bernardino — Probate Division. Per the court’s own guidance, probate matters are filed and heard at the Fontana and Victorville Districts. The San Bernardino Justice Center’s Probate Clerk’s Office and in-person probate services permanently relocated to Fontana, effective February 13, 2024 — so an older reference naming the San Bernardino Justice Center as a probate filing location may no longer be current.

  • Fontana District — handles probate matters for much of the county’s west/central cities.
  • Victorville District — handles probate matters for the county’s High Desert communities.
  • Needles District — hears guardianships and petitions to establish facts of birth, death, or marriage, but is not a general probate filing location.

The correct filing or hearing location for a specific case can depend on the case type, applicable law, and the parties’ ZIP-code information — it is not simply “whichever courthouse is closest.” Confirm the current filing location directly through the San Bernardino Superior Court’s own guidance, or with the clerk or a California probate attorney for case-specific questions. This page does not determine which courthouse applies to any individual estate.

Probate eFiling has been mandatory for attorneys since June 16, 2025, and remains voluntary for self-represented litigants. The Probate Division also handles trust proceedings, conservatorships, and guardianships alongside decedents’ estates. Venue generally follows where the deceased person lived at the time of death, not where a particular property is located.
